Network
Over the years, the Ministry has promoted the establishment of structured networks between the IRCCS in order to pool the resources present in the IRCCS in terms of clinical, experimental and biotechnological scientific skills, advanced technologies, and to optimise the use of resources and strengthen the Italian position in Europe in terms of research and care in the different thematic areas.
The organization of the networks derives from the fact that teamwork has an important impact on the research and clinical system, as it allows to guarantee a significant critical mass and to obtain responses throughout the national territory towards citizens and patients as well as creating a platform of research centers.
The objectives are:
- orientate towards coordinated research to optimise research capabilities and sustainability;
- create a platform of research centers, grouped by macro-areas, easily accessible to citizens/patients for the treatment of diseases, improving health services and the dissemination of good practices;
- internationalise the participation of IRCCS Thematic Networks through targeted, structured, competitive and sustainable research projects.
Participation in projects that can be carried out online represents a significant opportunity for the G. B. Bietti Foundation, within a context of synergies generated by collaborations, in line with the guidelines and objectives established by Italian legislation for Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalization and Healthcare.
As a Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Healthcare (IRCCS), the G. B. Bietti Foundation, in Italy, actively participates in two IRCCS networks and specifically:
- Neuroscience and Rehabilitation Network – RIN, the largest Italian research network in the field, was founded in 2017 by the Ministry of Health to stimulate collaboration between Scientific Hospitalization and Care Institutes (IRCCS), promote the dissemination of information on clinical-scientific activity and coordinate actions of international importance aimed at increasing the importance and competitiveness of the sector;
- Aging Network Association founded in 2017 with the aim of promoting the exchange of information, knowledge, data, scientific results and personnel in order to implement the best diagnoses and treatments and to adopt the best clinical practices developed by the individual IRCSS.
As part of the Aging network, the G.B. Bietti Foundation has participated in the following projects:
- Research roadmap on aging and age-related diseases 2018
- Implementation of the RoadMap in Aging Research (IRMA) 2019
- Aging Network Search (SIRI) 2020 Synergies
- PROMISING: approach to precision medicine in geriatrics: from the biomolecular bases of aging and age-related diseases to clinical and care models 2021
- Next Generation Promising (NGP): a new network approach to frailty, multimorbidity and age-related disease in the Era of Precision Medicine 2022
- Network Medicine: to improve the prognostic stratification of elderly patients with multimorbidity, frailty and disability 2022
- I-COMET Shared technological infrastructure for the development of predictive Models of ageing, based on Artificial Intelligence 2023
As part of the RIN Network, the G.B. Bietti Foundation has participated in the following projects:
- National Virtual Institutes of Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunological Disorders 2020
- National Virtual Institutes: the Italian network of neurological diseases 2021
- National virtual institutes for the study of neurological diseases: integration and complementarity of IRCCS for health research and the quality of care services provided 2022
At European level, the G.B. Bietti Foundation adheres to the EVICR.net-European Vision Institute Clinical Research Network, a network of ophthalmological clinical research centers, which carries out multinational clinical research in ophthalmology with the highest quality standards, following the European and international guidelines for clinical research according to harmonized SOPs in order to strengthen the European Union’s capacity to study the determinants of ophthalmic diseases and to develop and optimize the use of diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic strategies in ophthalmology.
EVICR.net is an independent European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG) established in 2010 in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) No 2137/85.
